The Minnesota Timberwolves got a legit star when they drafted Anthony Edwards, and not just because of his skills as a basketball player.
Edwards has the potential to be one of the best — if not the best — players in the league, and he knows it.
His confidence is still at an all-time high, and that was on full display when he was asked about Team USA’s matchup vs. Lithuania, as he claimed they weren’t worried about them at all.
Team USA was far from its best in that matchup, dropping it by six points to get their first loss of the FIBA Basketball World Cup.
That’s why some fans rushed to call out Edwards for his comments in a Twitter post shared by Legion Hoops.
You hate to see something like this happen, tough loss and another wake up call for USA basketball. The world is playing the game beautifully in different ways and the USA lost. Too much confidence? Not enough preparation?

Then again, what else could he say?
He’s a confident player, and he wasn’t disrespectful to Lithuania.
He felt like his team had a legit chance to win that game, and why wouldn’t he?
They were undefeated before that matchup.
On top of that, it’s not like Edwards didn’t show up.
He led his team with 35 points and was the main reason why they had a slight chance to win the game.
Team USA will now play Italy, which is a less complicated rival than Serbia, at least matchup-wise.
This squad struggles against physical frontcourts and size, so Italy should bring them less trouble.
Whatever the case, it’s become clear that they’re not the undisputed clear-cut favorite to win the gold this time, and they’ll have to be at their best to shift the narrative back in their favor.
