You have to be smart to be a successful quarterback in the National Football League.
The ability to recognize details, make reads and decisions in a split-second, and react to what’s in front of you is something that could make or break a prospect.
We’ve seen countless guys ace all of the drills when it comes to skills and ability, just to blatantly fail when it comes to actually playing the game.
That’s why the S2 cognitive test has lately been a predictor for success at the next level among NFL QBs, with youngsters like Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, and Justin Fields all ranking in the 90s.
Notably, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently reported that Alabama’s Bryce Young was actually spectacular on that test, scoring a 98 and edging all of the aforementioned quarterbacks.
Since I’ve been asked, Alabama QB Bryce Young scored a 98 on the S2 cognitive test, per sources. That’s a HUGE number—and one his teammate, Tide TE Cameron Latu, matched.
I mentioned Burrow, Fields and Allen (all in the 90s) as high scorers. Young’s score edged out all of them. https://t.co/k3D6JPLfMG

Of course, fans were quite impressed about that score:

So Brock purdy level. Why not say that instead of fields.

So his test scores confirm what you see on tape. Not a shock.

He’s been taking the test every year since the 10th grade I hope he’s good at it. More interested to see how his score has changed over time

Young has drawn plenty of praise for his football IQ and ability to break down rival defenses in real time.
He’s one of the smartest and best decision-makers to come out of college football in the past couple of years, so to see him ace this test isn’t much of a surprise.
The doubts about Young have never been because of that, but his small frame has always been a subject of debate among fans and scouts.
Young dominated the SEC during his time with the Alabama Crimson Tide, but he might not be able to withstand the physical punishment that comes with being an NFL quarterback.
Even so, he’s just too good not to take the risk.
