One of the biggest basketball events in the world is quickly approaching and multiple NBA stars are going to suit up for the FIBA World Cup.
Athletes from all over the globe are going to play hard to represent their countries on the court, including a few huge international players.
But one of those players, Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets, will not be playing.
It is being reported by Nets Daily, through NBACentral, that Simmons will not play for Australia’s team in this year’s games.

The news of Simmons’ decision to not play in the World Cup was met with a huge reaction online.
And nearly all of the responses to Simmons’ choice were negative and harsh against him.
Right away, people said that this is further proof that he just doesn’t have the heart to play basketball anymore.

Others said that no one should be surprised by this choice, as Simmons is often sitting out of games lately.
He’s on the bench more than he’s on the floor so why would anyone expect a different outcome, they asked.

But there were some who said that Simmons is making the right choice.
They argue that Simmons should resist playing in the World Cup so he can instead focus on getting healthier and stronger for his Nets.
As we all know, Simmons only played in 42 games last season due to a number of injuries.
Now more than ever, the Nets need him to be reliable.

These responses about Simmons show that he is still looked at sideways by many NBA fans.
He has done an awful lot of damage to his public image and it’ll take tons of work to repair it.
Perhaps sitting out of the FIBA World Cup is the first step to getting his career back on track and reminding fans what he’s capable of.
