The New England Patriots are at a bit of a crossroads right now.
The patience is running out, and team owner Robert Kraft made it clear that he might make a tough decision regarding Bill Belichick’s future if things don’t improve soon.
The post-Tom Brady era has been tough.
It seemed like they had found his heir in Mac Jones, but the second-year QB regressed vastly after a somewhat impressive rookie season.
And while plenty of that had to do with the Pats’ issues with offensive play-calling, he was outplayed by rookie backup Bailey Zappe from time to time.
So, even though the team seemed committed to Jones going forward, coach Belichick was non-committal about his QB1 next season, stating that every player would get an opportunity to showcase their skills.

Needless to say, that prompted plenty of speculation and comments on social media.
Is he at the point where Shula & Landry were in their final years?
Is it time to move on from him?
I’m starting to lean that way !

I’d be noncommittal about them being on the starting roster.

Has he ever been committal about anything?

Those comments were right on point with the Belichick way.
He’s always been cryptic about his plans, but he’s also been quite harsh to some of his most prominent players, which is one of the reasons that led to Brady’s departure, according to several reports.
The legendary coach is as pragmatic as they come, and he won’t hesitate to pull the plug on any player if that’s what it takes to win games.
Then again, if the Pats aren’t that sold on Jones, why not push all the chips to the center of the table and pursue 26-year-old MVP Lamar Jackson instead?
