Sauce Gardner finished the 2022 NFL Season with high honors, achieving the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
The New York Jets had one of the league’s best defenses last season, which Gardner was a large piece of.
As they move forward into 2023, the team has added several pieces on both sides of the ball, with playoff hopes in mind.
On a recent episode of New Heights, which is hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, Gardner made a bold claim about the 2023 season.
“I might have to go get MVP,” said Gardner.
Did @iamSauceGardner just call out Andy Reid?

The Kelce brothers had initially thought Gardner was in-line for the Defensive Player of the Year, but he has higher expectations.
As one might imagine, several fans across the internet shared their reactions to this assertion, which many are calling a bold claim.

As this Jets fan claims, Gardner should have no problem achieving this award.
After his efforts during the 2022 season, Gardner sparked the attention of many across the league and is already regarded as one of the league’s best.
Despite Gardner’s success last year, other fans aren’t so sure he’ll be able to win MVP.
Good luck with MVP. Not unless you plan on playing QB. In today’s world and NFL, that ain’t happening.

That’s something the NFL has not had in a min.

The MVP has become a quarterback-centric award.
The last time that MVP went to a non-quarterback was in 2012 when Adrian Peterson won due to his efforts as a running back.
1986 marked the last time that the league MVP award went to a defensive player, which was given to Lawrence Taylor.
Taylor is widely seen as one of the best defensive players in NFL history.
Can Gardner achieve that level of greatness in his sophomore season?
