The Kansas City Chiefs entered the offseason in need of a quarterback.

No, not a starter, as Patrick Mahomes will be in KC for the rest of his career.

But, a veteran backup to fill the void left by Chad Henne.

Any veteran who can step in and provide complementary play would be ideal.

Kansas City found that in former Tampa Bay Buccaneers backup Blaine Gabbert.

According to Ari Meirov, the Chiefs are singing Gabbert to a deal.

It seems like any quarterback that enters an Andy Reid offense will be able to have success.

Henne was able to step in and have success over the past few seasons.

He was even thrown into the Chiefs’ first playoff game last year after Mahomes went out with an ankle injury.

Gabbert should be able to fill that void left by Henne.

Blaine Gabbert to Kansas City!

Gabbert is a master of Bruce Arian’s offense and has been in his offense for 7 years. In 21 & 22, he is 13/19 passing for 98 yards and a TD

Overall, Gabbert has played in 66 games with 48 starts and has thrown for 9,273 yards, 50 TDs and 47 ints

He spent the last few years playing behind Tom Brady, and that should benefit him in KC.

Great signing by KC. Want to see the contract numbers but Gabbert was near the top of my list for potential backups. Veach is killing it this off-season.

Backup quarterback is one of the most important positions in the NFL.

We saw last year how Cooper Rush was able to keep the Dallas Cowboys’ season alive once Dak Prescott got injured.

So experienced players who can learn the offense and play at a moment’s notice are great to have.

Gabbert has carved out some solid backup roles on very good teams.

Blaine Gabbert is a smart man. He has mastered the backup role.

Also, Gabbert was born in Missouri and played college football there.

So coming to the Chiefs is almost like a homecoming for him.

Kansas City hopes that Gabbert never sees the field, but if he does, the Chiefs can feel confident in his play.

The Chiefs are the favorites to repeat as Super Bowl champions, and the strength of their entire roster is a big reason why.
