The Green Bay Packers and New York Jets still haven’t figured out compensation for Aaron Rodgers.

One might think that the Packers have no leverage in this situation, as Rodgers has already admitted his desire to play for the Jets, and they’ve already given the keys to Jordan Love.

But regardless, the Packers are still playing hardball, and the Jets refuse to cave.

That’s why Packers star David Bakhtiari believes that people should be ready for a long standoff, up to the point where the deal might not happen at all.

Bakhtiari claims that the Packers could decide to just pay Rodgers not to play instead of trading him for less value.

Appearing on @BussinWTB, David Bakhtiari floated the idea that the Packers could choose to pay Aaron Rodgers to not play, if the Jets won’t give the Packers what they want. https://t.co/UzppWxWaFX

And while far-fetched, he thinks it’s a possibility people will need to at least consider.

Needless to say, this take raised plenty of mixed reviews on social media.

That’s a lose lose for packers

I thought this was clickbait. But, He really said that. Do players not know how the cap works? I find that hard to believe. Is he not trying to be competitive again?… look at the circus this has been in the off season. Imagine the show in packers training camp. Poor Love. pic.twitter.com/BOdl7zn0Pk

Would love to be his car salesman

We’ve seen crazy things happen in this league, but someone paying a guy $50 million not to play would be arguably the craziest.

Also, Rodgers has already shown how much chaos he can create when he’s not happy, so the Packers might not want to deal with that situation in their locker room.

Chances are that this deal will get done sooner rather than later, perhaps on the eve of the NFL Draft or around that date.

There’s just no way the Packers will give Rodgers that much money and not want him to take a couple of snaps for them, especially if Jordan Love fails to impress early in the season.
