For many fans of the Los Angeles Lakers, Dillon Brooks of the Memphis Grizzlies has become an enormous villain.
Brooks has never been one to bite his tongue and keep his opinions to himself and he recently made a comment about LeBron James being old.
He isn’t scared of James and even said he doesn’t “respect no one until they come and give me 40.”
However, that wasn’t the tune he sang more than a decade ago.
SportsCenter found an old tweet after James won the championship of Brooks saying, “‘it’s about dam time’ the champion Lebron James.”

NBA fans had quite the response to Brooks’ old words.
Some people don’t understand what the big deal is, noting that Brooks has openly said that he respects James but will treat him like any other opponent when they are on the court together.
Bro literally said he respects the dude and he’s a legend, but on the court he gonna treat him like anybody else. Y’all just don’t wanna post that part #Villian #BigMemphis

Other people noted that times change and players will target James even if they looked up to him.
That was a decade ago. Lebron is a target now. Players are going at him

There were some who reminded people that James was so popular at that time that liking him could have been considered a villainous move.
That means this tweet could have been in line with Brooks’ bad-guy persona.
Nah he actually a villain because liking LeBron at that time was rare

Finally, others again mentioned that Brooks is lucky enough to play against an icon he grew up idolizing.
It’s almost like he grew up watching him play

It is not surprising to see Brooks say such harsh things about James considering the type of NBA player that he is.
He probably still respects James but he’s not the type to talk like that.
Instead, he is going to be tough and intimidating, even to those who inspired him.
