The Los Angeles Lakers wasted no time making changes to the organization as they quickly dismissed former head coach Darvin Ham and his coaching staff.

Ham’s firing came on the heels of the Lakers’ first-round exit against the Denver Nuggets, setting up another pivotal head coaching search.

Los Angeles has shuffled through several head coaches since they got rid of Phil Jackson over a decade ago, and now must try to nail their next hiring.

Shortly after Ham was let go, an initial list of candidates was released that included names like Mike Budenholzer, Charles Lee, and Tyronn Lue.

Since then, Budenholzer and Lee were hired by the Phoenix Suns and Charlotte Hornets, respectively, while Lue is likely to earn a contract extension with the Los Angeles Clippers.

L.A. will now reportedly turn their attention to JJ Redick and James Borrego which had fans up in arms via Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

“JJ Redick and James Borrego are two of the top candidates to monitor for the Lakers’ head coaching vacancy, per @wojespn. Los Angeles is “drilling down” doing a lot of vetting on the potential upside of Redick becoming their next coach,” Wojnarowski reported.

Redick’s candidacy is an interesting one because he doesn’t have prior head coaching experience but does co-host a podcast with LeBron James.

Meanwhile, Borrego has been serving as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans after previously serving as the Hornets’ head coach.

Neither option inspires much confidence, though this is the reality that the Lakers must deal with as they continue to evaluate candidates.
