There are many aspects that make an NBA Slam Dunk contest stand out for the fans.
Of course, the quality of dunks is the first priority for most, but many fans also love a contestant incorporating innovation into their dunks.
The 2024 NBA Slam Dunk contest didn’t feature many out-of-the-world dunks, but it did feature an excellent dunk by the eventual winner, Mac McClung.
Yes, we are talking about none other than McClung’s final dunk to take the crown over Jaylen Brown.
Mac McClung decided to dunk over former NBA superstar Shaquille O’Neal, and fans had various reactions to it.

Most fans congratulated Mac McClung for pulling off the dunk over the towering 7’1″ stature of Shaquille O’Neal, but they still had a few complaints.
Of course, it was not an innovative dunk, as many players in the past have attempted and succeeded in doing the same.
On top of that, the primary part that didn’t sit well with most NBA fans was the overall level of competition in the NBA Slam Dunk contest.
Outside of Jaylen Brown, no superstar from the NBA accepted the invitation to take part in the iconic competition.
As a result, many fans weren’t really excited to be a part of the event.
Keeping that in mind, many fans are certain that the NBA needs to revamp the Slam Dunk contest.
Will the NBA bring an innovation to one of the biggest events of the season? Only time will tell.
