The Miami Dolphins made headlines this morning by locking up their head coach for the foreseeable future.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, the franchise has extended head coach Mike McDaniel through the 2028 season.

“Playoff wins are obviously the final piece of the puzzle, but the organization believes McDaniel is the coach to lead them there,” Darlington posted on social media recently.

Breaking News: Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel has signed a new contract that extends him through the 2028 season, sources said.

With the news of McDaniel’s extension, NFL and Dolphins fans alike are excited about the move.

Well deserved. He has done WONDERS for Miami. I bet he leads them to a Super Bowl by 2028.

As Darlington notes, McDaniel has taken the Dolphins to back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since the start of the century.

Last season, the Dolphins won 10+ games for just the third time in the last 15 years and currently have one of the best offenses in football.

McDaniel and Pro Bowl quarterback Tua Tagovailoa are now a package deal after both were given extensions prior to the start of the regular season.

Now, the goal for the Dolphins has to be winning the AFC East and winning playoff games.

McDaniel has proven how good of a coach he is but is still searching for that first division title, playoff win, and Super Bowl, of course.

In a loaded AFC East that includes the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets and the Josh Allen-led Buffalo Bills, winning the division will be a tall task this season.

Additionally, the entire AFC is stacked with great quarterbacks and competitive teams.

However, if McDaniel can find a way to take his team a little further this year like did last year, this franchise is on track to be in good hands for years to come.
