The New Orleans Saints are one of the more intriguing teams in the NFL heading into the 2024 season.
After finishing 9-8 but missing the playoffs a year ago, head coach Dennis Allen and Co. are looking to take the next step.
For Allen, who is coming off of the first winning season of his head-coaching career, he is also looking to expand his vocabulary.
While recently speaking with the New Orleans media, Allen needed help understanding the definition of the word “metaphor.”
“I’m leaving the metaphors to you guys…What is a metaphor? What’s the official definition of metaphor,” Allen asked the members of the media.

It is fair to say that Saints fans aren’t too wild about their head coach not knowing the definition of the word.

Metaphors and definitions aside, Allen does not have the best track record as an NFL head coach.
In his five seasons as a head coach, he has a career record of 24-46.
He was the head coach of the then-Oakland Raiders from 2012 to the early part of 2014 before being fired after posting an abysmal 8-28 mark.
However, his time in New Orleans has gone a little bit better since he took over for Sean Payton in 2022.
After going 7-10 in 2022, he posted the aforementioned 9-8 record last season.
In the NFC South where it seemingly could be any team’s division, perhaps a healthy Derek Carr and the addition of former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Chase Young can help put this team over the top.
However, metaphors should be the least of Allen’s worries if he posts another losing record.
