The Philadelphia Eagles and Arizona Cardinals made a somewhat odd announcement.
The Cardinals self-reported that they had violated the league’s anti-tampering policy.
GM Monti Ossenfort confessed that he reached out to former Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon about their head coach opening just days after the Eagles played the NFC Championship Game.
The NFC Championship Game took place on January 29, with the Eagles taking down the San Francisco 49ers.
Then, they lost Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs on February 12, with the team announcing Gannon as their new HC just a couple of days later.
Eagles and Cardinals settled a tampering investigation today involving the hiring of former Philadelphia DC Jonathan Gannon as Arizona’s HC, per sources.
Terms: Eagles traded pick No. 94 in this draft and a 2024 5th-round pick to the Cardinals for pick No. 66 in this draft. pic.twitter.com/NTl49BleJE

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the teams just decided to swap picks to settle this tampering investigation before it got out of hand, which obviously led to some hilarious comments on social media.
And we didn’t even get Brady.

Specifically, the Eagles and Cardinals swapped third-round picks in this year’s NFL Draft, with the Eagles now having the No. 66 selection instead of No. 94.
They also got a 2024 fifth-rounder as a part of the agreement.
The Miami Dolphins just got stripped of their draft picks for tampering to try and get Tom Brady, and the worst part is that they didn’t even get him; they were just punished for trying.
GM Howie Roseman always seems to end up on top of these situations, and it’s not like the Eagles needed any extra draft capital or better draft picks to be successful.
But hey, you know what they say: the rich always get richer, and the Eagles are pretty much loaded right now.
