The last time NBA fans saw Blake Griffin play in the league was when he was suiting up for the Boston Celtics in the 2022-23 season.
Since then, there have been many questions about what’s next for him or if he will play in the NBA again.
On Tuesday morning, Griffin announced that he was officially retiring from the league.
ESPN carried the news, which was shared by Griffin on social media after months of radio silence about his plans.

After Griffin’s announcement, there were many NBA fans who came out to celebrate and speak about Griffin and his years in the league.
Many people reminded young basketball fans of just how great Griffin once was.
Numerous people called Griffin a “legend” and someone who was a “must watch” during his prime.

Then there were some people who were surprised to hear that Griffin was still in the league.
In his final seasons, Griffin saw limited minutes on the floor, averaging just 13.9 during his last year with the Celtics.
In his last NBA season, he averaged 4.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.
His age and a number of injuries had all caught up with Griffin and he simply wasn’t able to play as much as he had at the level he hoped for.

Griffin’s career average will now sit at 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.
In the early 2010s, Griffin, Chris Paul, and the Los Angeles Clippers were something special to witness and played with a level of energy that excited the entire league.
Now that he’s stepped away from professional basketball, Griffin can rest assured that he has a special place in league history.
