The Memphis Grizzlies are hoping to put a forgettable 2022-23 NBA season behind them after the team dealt with multiple off-the-court problems with superstar guard Ja Morant and couldn’t stop defensive-minded forward Dillon Brooks from saying things to motivate opponents.

Heading into the summer, the Grizzlies have reportedly let it be known that they have no intention of bringing back Brooks, and that could prove costly for the veteran forward.

Apparently, Brooks has his sights set on making a certain number per year as he heads into free-agency discussions with teams next month, and there’s a decent chance he could struggle to find a new team.

According to NBA Insider Marc Stein, Brooks wants more than the mid-level exception, which might be a bit too high for a controversial figure.

With fans clearly thinking Brooks getting that much per season with a new team is a joke, it’ll be interesting to see what teams around the league feel about his asking price.

Although Brooks will definitely provide a boost defensively for his next team, there’s no question he’s become a liability on the offensive end of the basketball floor, which may make things that much more challenging for him when he heads into free agency next month.

Only time will tell where Brooks may ultimately end up and if he’s able to get what he wants in terms of compensation on a short-term or long-term contract this summer.
