After coming off back-to-back Super Bowl titles, the Kansas City Chiefs were on top of the world once again, with Patrick Mahomes and company now on the verge of potentially making NFL history next season if they can win a third straight title, which would be the first time any team has been able to accomplish that feat.
Unfortunately for the Chiefs, there’s been a lot of negative attention surrounding the storied franchise, with their players getting in trouble off the field on seemingly a daily basis during the NFL offseason, which obviously isn’t a great look for a defending Super Bowl champion.
Along with players like Rashee Rice bringing the wrong kind of attention to the team as they pursue history, kicker Harrison Butker didn’t do the Chiefs any favors either, as he caused quite a stir with his controversial comments made in the commencement address at Benedictine College recently.
Butker’s commencement speech didn’t go down well with many people, especially women, and it has made him a controversial figure in the NFL.
Despite the negative attention Butker has received for his speech, that didn’t stop the Chiefs from making him the highest-paid kicker in the game, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

It comes as no surprise that there were a lot of comments on both sides in this breaking news about Butker, as no one has forgotten the things he said during that speech, which will likely follow him for the rest of his NFL career.
It’ll be interesting to see how Butker is received by fans in the league during this upcoming season and if it becomes a distraction for this legitimate title contender in the AFC.
