So far this season, the Denver Nuggets‘ quest to repeat as NBA champions has been going well, as they hold a 7-1 record, the best record in the league.
However, repeating as world champs is very difficult, and the Nuggets are now dealing with adversity for the first time since perhaps early last season.
Jamal Murray, their star point guard, will reportedly likely miss the rest of this month because of a strained right hamstring, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

This is a very concerning development for the Nuggets, who depend on Murray for quite a bit of their scoring, playmaking, and ability to get out in transition.
Fans are obviously very concerned about his injury.

Man poor guy seems to get hit by the injury bug too often!

Murray had previously torn his ACL late in the 2020-21 season, and he missed all of the following season as a result.
This fan seems to even predict doom for Denver.
Nuggets aren’t even gonna make the playoffs now

One of the reasons it’s so hard to win two championships in a row is that when a team wins its first title, it has a shorter offseason, which means less recovery time and a greater risk of injury.
Sometimes it is best for a defending champion team to pace itself early in the season in order to lower the risk of key injuries, rather than burst out of the gate quickly and peak too soon.
No NBA team has repeated as world champs since the Golden State Warriors did so during the 2017-18 season, and that year, Stephen Curry missed almost six weeks of action with a sprained MCL.
The Nuggets have suspect depth, and they will need to develop some legitimate contributors off their bench to get through this stretch without Murray.
