The Golden State Warriors just can’t catch a break.

They failed to trade for Paul George because the Los Angeles Clippers didn’t want to engage in talks over a sign-and-trade.

They parted ways with Chris Paul without getting anything in return.

They lost Klay Thompson and failed to find a trade suitor for Andrew Wiggins.

And to make things even worse, they won’t be able to trade for their top target, Lauri Markkanen.

According to a report by Shams Charania of The Athletic, Markkanen and the Utah Jazz are expected to agree to a ‘massive’ long-term contract extension.

JUST IN: NBA All-Star Lauri Markkanen and the Utah Jazz are expected to agree to a massive long-term contract extension and sign Wednesday or later, making him untradeable for entire 2024-25, sources tell me, @Tjonesonthenba, @anthonyVslater.

The deal would make him untradeable for the entire campaign.

Needless to say, this was a shocking turn of events, and the fans took to Twitter to react to this surprising news.

The Jazz are going through a rebuild and Markkanen has established himself as an All-Star-caliber player, and he would’ve gauged a nice value in return in any potential trade.

The Warriors reportedly refused to include Brandin Podziemski in any transaction, and that could’ve been a deal breaker for both parties here.

Markkanen will now play for a rebuilding team for most of his prime.

He could’ve joined a contender or borderline contender and still gotten a big payday, but he chose to stay with the team that helped him break out and achieve his full potential.

Now, the Warriors will have to pivot again and pursue help somewhere else, but there aren’t going to be many feasible options for Steve Kerr’s team.
