On March 22, the Dallas Mavericks and Golden State Warriors went head-to-head in a matchup that got a lot of attention for something bizarre that occurred during the game.
There was a controversial out-of-bounds play in which one of the officials on the floor seemed to be lost and made a mistake by basically handing the ball to the Warriors for an easy score.
To make matters worse, the Warriors won the game by two points, so that play proved costly and ultimately resulted in a protest from Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, who was livid about the bizarre on-the-floor incident.
After being reviewed by the league, the NBA denied the protest by the Mavericks.

Here are some fan reactions to the ruling made by the NBA on the Mavericks’ protest:
My point exactly. They had 14 minutes to win the game, play better D and make more shots, this didn’t happen with 5 seconds to go in the game

The league seems to be saying that the Mavericks had plenty of time to make up for the officials more or less handing the Warriors two points because there were 14 minutes left in the contest, and Dallas actually took the lead twice in that period.
That’s a bit of an odd explanation as it basically says that the Mavericks could’ve won the game, so it doesn’t matter that the officials made a bad call.
Quite the deflection by the league and something that Cuban will no doubt be upset about; he may have a case because this is a strange ending to a bizarre situation, which is rarely seen in the NBA.
In the end, it’s a matter of principle and precedent set by the league and its officials, as there’s no accountability for what was painfully obvious to be a mistake out of Dallas’ control.
