The San Antonio Spurs got the most hyped prospect since LeBron James.
Victor Wembanyama has all the tools to become one of the greatest players of all time, but he will need some time to develop and find his groove in the league.
Even so, the folks at NBA 2K expect him to be quite good right out of the gate, as they gave him an 84 rating despite not having played a single minute of NBA basketball.
Needless to say, that led to plenty of criticism on social media, with fans thinking he should’ve gotten a lower rating like most rookies do, hoping he’d earn his rating somewhere down the line.
Should’ve started him at a 81 or 82 and I’m sure by the end of the season he’d be a 84 or 85 anyways, but 84 as a starting point is pretty favourable. If he puts up like 15-17 PPG I expect 2k to give him a 87 by the end of the season

Too high for a rookie that’s never played in the NBA yet.
Let him prove himself

It’s not a secret that NBA 2K’s ratings are mostly subjective, at least in the offseason.
They always hype up the most popular players in the league, as they should, because it’s all about marketing.
Wembanyama will definitely post some big numbers every couple of nights during his rookie season, but there will also be some off nights.
Growing pains are to be expected for every single rookie, even the best prospects; that’s just a natural part of the process.
Even so, considering how much has been said of Wembanyama, some people will have to pump the brakes and have some more realistic expectations about how he could be like in the early stages of his career.
Those who expect him to look like a Hall of Famer in the first week of the regular season could be in for a tough awakening.
