Fans React To What Bengals Executive Said About Joe Mixon

Joe Mixon has been a mainstay and a stud for the Cincinnati Bengals, but his future with the organization seems uncertain right now.

Add in a couple of off-field scandals, and several signs point toward the Pro Bowler heading out the door before the start of next season.

That seems even more likely after EVP Katie Blackburn addressed his situation earlier this week:

“Right now, he’s on the team and we are gonna count on him until that wouldn’t be the case,” Blackburn said, as quoted by The Athletic.

Blackburn didn’t sound confident about Mixon’s future with the organization, and there was a big difference between reading the quote and actually hearing it.

Woof the difference between reading the answer and hearing it is astounding pic.twitter.com/8d1CEpvvQS

THIS IS THE EVP OF THE BENGALS.

This is the most unconfident I have ever heard a person talk about a football player EVER. https://t.co/h48VsfWXC0

She claimed that the team is counting on him while he’s on the team but left the door open for a potential breakup at some point.

Also, she admitted that she hasn’t talked with him about any of his scandals, namely charges of aggravated menacing and a shooting in which he wasn’t charged.

While his production has been steady, Mixon comes with a steep price tag in 2023, not to mention his recent non-sports-related incidents.

The executive didn’t want to get ahead of herself and added that she expects this situation to get sorted out sooner rather than later, but that didn’t offer a lot of clarity.

“I don’t want to get into how that might end up, so I don’t know that it’s fair to say anything,” Blackburn said. “But I think it will get resolved, hopefully fairly soon. He’s done a lot of great things for the team. I think he’s still got a lot of great production in him, so I hope his other issues all get resolved in a positive way.”

He’s due to make almost $13 million next season, and the Bengals would save $7.2 million by releasing him now or up to $10 million by parting ways after June 1.

So, while the Bengals might be all set for the future with stud QB Joe Burrow, they’ll likely be in the market for another star for their backfield.
