After long careers in the NBA, some athletes transition into retirement and are never seen again as they want to get out of the public eye and enjoy some privacy when their playing days are over.

Other athletes, like Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce, decide to go in another direction by becoming an analyst and a part of the media.

Sometimes this transition turns out to be a brilliant move, with Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley arguably being two of the biggest success stories.

But others can’t get away from things they used to do while they were players and that off-the-court life can spill over and ruin what they’re trying to do in their post-playing career.

Pierce turned out to be the latter, as his stint with ESPN quickly ended due to a video that surfaced after a lapse in judgment, which he admitted recently.

Paul Pierce recounts being fired from ESPN on his day off:

“I got fired for having some entertainment. What did I do wrong?”

Here are some fan reactions to Pierce talking about being fired by ESPN:

Paul P getting into HS mood, after making his first 1m. Man, Paul, you were good basketball player (not great) but man, do your thing with these women, but don’t put it on IG like 20 year old rookie man. This is bad…silly, at this point you should know ego not amigo

Bro forgot ESPN is part of Disney

“…at the end of the day it’s Disney…” :DDD

Unfortunately, some former professional athletes find it difficult to maintain a squeaky-clean image after walking away from the game.

Pierce couldn’t help himself and became a victim of living that life and making it public.

In retrospect, this was an unwise move by Pierce, as he knows that a company owned by Disney would not tolerate what he did, but it was probably for the best as he can now enjoy retirement and do whatever he wants to do in his private life.

Despite no longer being with ESPN, Pierce has remained active with appearances on podcasts and doesn’t seem to have any intention of stopping being in the public eye.
