The third quarter of Friday night’s game between the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves had a very strange moment.

Anthony Davis fell awkwardly on his ankle and immediately collapsed, obviously in serious pain.

But neither team called a time-out as Davis writhed in pain and the game went on.

Following the 123-111 defeat, Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert talked about the moment and said that it stopped him from scoring.

“I had the ball in my hands I could’ve went and dunked it, but AD was laying there. So I was like, ‘that’s too ruthless, I’ll just pass it out.’ After that it was just turnover after turnover. It was just a tough stretch,” Gobert said according to reporter Jon Krawczynski.

Gobert said the mess as AD went down was turning point:

This comment from Gobert received a ton of responses online and most of them were negative.

“Lol not a Wolves fan but if an injury derails the entire game you’re not a good team,” kap said on Twitter.

Some people were supportive of Gobert’s move, saying it was “just being respectful to the competition if it’s a playoff race but y’all can’t knock this man for putting safety of another human first.”

i mean this is just being respectful to the competition ik it’s a playoff race but y’all can’t knock this man for putting the saftey of another human first, the shot wouldn’t def been contested and who knows who he falls on if fouled

But there were many, especially Timberwolves fans, who were rolling their eyes at Gobert’s response to Davis’ injury.

“Take no prisoners. They’re trying to make the playoffs here,” said KC.

“Thanks for letting him score 19 more pts after that,” said one disappointed follower.

The NBA doesn’t see moments like this very often.

Typically when a player hits the deck, the game stops as he gets back up or is helped to the bench.

But the fact that the Lakers-Timberwolves game didn’t come to a halt threw Gobert off.

It also ended up being the turning point for the game and the Lakers walked away with a pivotal victory.
