The San Francisco 49ers are one of the best all-around teams in the NFL right now, with the storied franchise arguably in a championship window.

However, the biggest concern for the 49ers moving forward is at the quarterback position, especially with Jimmy Garoppolo signing with the Las Vegas Raiders and Brock Purdy dealing with an injury that’ll keep him out for quite some time.

The team appears content to keep Purdy under center as the starter once he’s healthy, but there’s no timetable for his return, which turns the attention to former first-round pick Trey Lance.

Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 of this past season, but he’s now back on the field, with the first video of him throwing surfacing this week.

With Garoppolo moving on and Purdy on the mend, Lance will have an opportunity to reclaim his job as the starting quarterback for the 49ers.

The team recently signed veteran journeyman Sam Darnold for insurance at the quarterback position, which will pose some threat to Lance as he’ll have to beat out the veteran in training camp.

However, if Lance is looking good and ready to get back to competing on the gridiron, he’ll likely be the Week 1 starter for San Francisco over Darnold.

One thing is for sure for Lance right now, the pressure will be on right out of the gate in training camp and to start the season with the 49ers hoping to compete and take advantage of a weak NFC West division.
