The Chicago Bears have gone to great lengths to improve their roster ahead of the upcoming season.

But as much as they should be better in 2023, they’re still a couple of pieces — and years — away from legit Super Bowl contention.

With that in mind, Colin Cowherd asked former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt if the Bears should be disappointed with an 8-9 season and Justin Fields showing signs of improvement.

Wannstedt responded that they should be disappointed, but he still predicted them to be just a seven or eight-win kind of team next season, even if Fields continues to improve.

“I think they’re a 7, 8 win team”

The former coach cited that he’s not worried about their offense whatsoever.

Their defense, however, is a big sign of concern.

Even so, there’s little-to-no chance that the Bears are as bad as they were last season, at least with a healthy Fields.

He grew way more comfortable within the offense as the season progressed, with Matt Eberflus giving him a longer leash and allowing him to do his thing in the open field.

There was a point in the season when he legitimately looked like the best second-year quarterback out there, silencing his doubters and proving that he could be one of the best dual-threat QBs for years to come.

The Bears also did a better job of giving him more weapons for the passing game, so there’s no wonder why Wannstedt has full confidence in their ability to put more points on the scoreboard this upcoming season.
