On Friday, the St. Louis Cardinals began their process of selling at this year’s trade deadline.

Left-handed reliever Genesis Cabrera was shipped off to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for 19-year-old catching prospect Sammy Hernandez.

Cabrera posted a 5.06 ERA in 32 appearances this year for the Cardinals.

However, the lefty wasn’t about to walk out the door without giving the Cardinals organization and the City of St. Louis a proper farewell.

After the trade was completed, Cabrera took to Instagram to thank the Cardinals and their fans for his time in St. Louis.

John Denton of MLB.com posted a screenshot of Cabrera’s farewell message on Twitter.

Cabrera was designated for assignment on Monday, but the Cardinals ultimately found a team that would take him.

In his message, Cabrera reflected on his time as a Cardinal.

He came to St. Louis from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Tommy Pham at the 2018 deadline.

The left-hander expressed his gratitude towards St. Louis, thanking the City and organization for helping him achieve his childhood dream.

He also commented on the memories he made as a Cardinal, ones that he’ll never forget.

Cabrera became a reliable bullpen arm for the team in 2020, posting a 2.42 ERA in the COVID-shortened season.

The next year, he followed up with a 3.73 ERA and was the top lefty in St. Louis’ bullpen.

He began to struggle in 2022 and ultimately found himself on the outside looking in.

Now, he’ll have a fresh start in Toronto as the Blue Jays look to chase down a Wild Card spot.
