The Buffalo Bills have been incredibly active over the past several days.

Even though the NFL’s salary cap is much higher than many predicted, the Bills still found themselves in a financial bind.

As a result, the Bills have started cutting some of their starters to get under the salary cap.

While they have cut some starters, they recently re-signed a player who was a head-scratching move to many fans, including former Kansas City Chief Mitchell Schwartz.

Schwartz was in disbelief over the Bills’ signing of Mitchell Trubisky, wondering why they would pay a backup quarterback over $5 million.

“It’s hilarious that Buffalo is cutting all these guys and they’re still over the cap but they’re OK paying Trubisky more than league minimum. Do they not watch football?” Schwartz said.

Trubisky is slated to backup Josh Allen, which means he won’t see the field unless Allen suffers an injury next season.

At first glance, Schwartz might have a point.

The Bills are still over the cap, and they still have some work to do ahead of the NFL Draft if they want to be able to pay their incoming rookies.

However, as Schwartz knows quite well from playing on the Chiefs, having a viable quarterback is paramount in the NFL.

Yes, the Bills would much prefer to roll out Allen every week, but if something does happen to him, they at least want to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.

This is where Trubisky could fit in.

He might be a higher-paid backup, but if Allen goes down, the Bills can be confident that they have a veteran with a lot of league experience to help lead them for however long he is out.
