New York Giants fans’ patience with quarterback Daniel Jones is running thin, and the quarterback needs a big year in 2024 to remind everyone why he got such a huge contract to be the team’s franchise QB.

Coming off a disastrous season that was cut short due to a torn ACL, one former teammate said Jones didn’t get a “fair shot” last season given the circumstances he had to deal with.

Recently retired tight end Darren Waller appeared on “The Ross Tucker Podcast” and defended his former teammate.

“You can’t expect anyone to be successful with the pocket the way it was,” Waller said. “… I don’t think he really got a fair shot.”

Waller didn’t get much time with Jones after retiring this offseason following 12 games played in his one year in New York, but it’s nice to see him sticking up for his former teammate after an offseason full of scrutiny.

Plus, his point isn’t wrong, as the Giants gave up 85 sacks last season, which led the NFL by a large margin.

The Giants are counting on Jones more than ever with Saquon Barkley no longer in the locker room after signing with the rival Philadelphia Eagles this offseason, so the offense will have to rely more on Jones and the passing attack.

New York also elected to draft wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6 overall instead of one of the six QBs taken in the top 12 to eventually replace Jones.

Jones hasn’t had a weapon like Nabers to work with, so it will be exciting to see what he can do with him.
