Last summer, the New York Knicks made one of the best free-agent signings the storied franchise has ever made, with the team convincing guard Jalen Brunson to leave Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in favor of the Big Apple.

Although this was a questionable move by Brunson at the time, considering the Mavericks were coming off a trip to the Western Conference Finals, the up-and-comer couldn’t have made a better move, as he helped turn things around in New York with some inspired play at the point guard position.

Brunson took his game to another level in New York and became arguably the best player on the team ahead of Julius Randle, resulting in the team making the NBA playoffs and pulling off the upset against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round.

The Villanova product is now a household name in the biggest market in the country and the player the Knicks want to build around moving forward, with former Knicks star Charlie Ward giving the 26-year-old some high praise, according to Brandon Scoop B” Robinson of Bally Sports via Let’s Talk Knicks on Twitter.

“Jalen is a guy that is a guy that is productive. He can score, he can assist, he’s ball-dominant but his ball-dominance is not overwhelming because he gets everyone else involved and he’s just that leader that you need on the floor … I remember when he was a little boy running… pic.twitter.com/p9u6TGYxCT

The true test for Brunson will be whether he can continue playing at an All-Star-caliber level next season for the Knicks and help this team take a step further as its undisputed leader.

The Knicks have relatively the same roster as they did last season and will have the challenge of competing against the best of the best in the East once again in order to take a step closer to making it to the NBA Finals.
