The Boston Red Sox had a very quiet trade deadline.

The team is right in the thick of the Wild Card race, as they own a record of 57-50 and sit just 1.5 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays, who currently hold the third and final spot.

However, Boston didn’t do much of anything this year at the trade deadline.

They acquired utilityman Luis Urias from the Milwaukee Brewers but didn’t accomplish anything else.

On Wednesday, former GM and current MLB insider Jim Duquette appeared on the show “Foul Territory” and discussed his opinion on where the Red Sox currently stand and the direction of their organization.

“I don’t think their owners are all in. I think they try to run it like a business.”

Duquette criticized Red Sox ownership, accusing them of not being “all in” and essentially running the team like a business.

Duquette commented that this is not an approach that will go over well with Red Sox fans, who expect a competitive team year in and year out.

He also stated that to be successful in Boston, owners and general managers are going to have to be a little bit reckless when it comes to spending money, which is something the Sox didn’t do a whole lot of in the offseason.

Recently, the Red Sox have let go of some key players, namely Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts.

Betts was traded and later extended by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Bogaerts was a free agent in the offseason and signed with the San Diego Padres.

However, the Red Sox never put forth a competitive offer for the star shortstop.
