Recently, former San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon caught some strays from NBA fans, more specifically, from New York Knicks fans.

The Las Vegas Aces coach claimed that Jalen Brunson isn’t a top-tier player, adding that the Knicks aren’t a legitimate championship contender because their best player also happens to be their smallest player.

Needless to say, those comments didn’t sit well with the fanbase, which is why she had to take to Twitter to explain her comments.

Hammon doubled down on the criticism, and while she praised Brunson and claimed that he’s an All-Star, All-NBA kind of player who has earned his stripes in the league and used to give the Spurs a lot of work when he played for the Dallas Mavericks, she still can’t put him on the same tier as players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, or Joel Embiid.

The former player also stated that the game favors big guys, and while she wishes that wasn’t the case, that’s just a fact, so she wouldn’t back down from her comments.

Truth be told, it’s hard to take offense at those comments.

She was telling the truth, and that’s not a shot at Brunson whatsoever.

The fact of the matter is that there are just a handful of tier 1-A players, and that shouldn’t be an offense.

Being in the league is hard enough, and standing out from the rest of the pack is an honor reserved for just a few, and Brunson isn’t one of them, even though he’s a very good player.
