The NBA made an example out of former player Jontay Porter during the NBA season, when he received a lifetime ban for violating the league’s gambling policies.
Now, it has turned even rougher for Porter.
According to Bleacher Report, he has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and could face more than four years in prison.

This is why the NBA and other major sports have tried to crack down on gambling by its players.
Porter was found to have manipulated bets regarding himself, taking himself out of games with the Toronto Raptors.
He averaged 2.0 points per game in 11 games with the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2020-21 NBA season before not playing in the league for the next two years.
In fact, he spent the 2021-22 and 2022-2023 seasons in the G League with teams such as the Wisconsin Herd and Motor City Cruise.
He returned to the NBA this past season and averaged 4.4 points per game in 26 appearances for the Raptors.
On March 25, the NBA opened its investigation into the dealings of Porter, and on April 17, he was banned for life because of his actions.
So the next time any player or coach decides to get involved in gambling, this could be an example of the consequences that could arise.
