The season officially ended for the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night as they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a tough, painful defeat at home.
This marked the conclusion of a season that was at times both inspiring and disappointing.
The disappointment came from the fact that, once again, Zion Williamson missed most of the year due to injury.
Williamson, suffering from a hamstring injury, hasn’t played a game with the team since January 2.
He sat courtside for Wednesday night’s game and even did some warm-up drills but he wasn’t close to suiting up.
Yet another season without Williamson has many people contemplating what’s next for him.
Former NBA player and current analyst Kendrick Perkins thinks it’s time for the Pels to give up on Williamson.
“If I’m in the front office of the New Orleans Pelicans, do I trust this guy to be my franchise player?” he asked on Thursday’s episode of First Take before saying the answer is “no.”

Perkins’ impassioned take on Williamson is hard to hear for many Pelicans fans.
Since being the No. 1 overall draft pick just a few years ago, Williamson has been one of the most promising but also one of the most troubling stars in the league.
His talent is unquestionable but his injuries are worrisome.
And the length of time he needs for recovery is also hard on the team.
There are many who wonder if his heart is still invested in the Pelicans.
Is it time to give up on him and trade him away before his trade value on the market is gone?
This summer may bring the answer to that question.
