Most of the dust has settled during this NFL offseason as teams have mostly sorted out their depth charts following the draft and free agency, but the San Francisco 49ers are one team that still has a major decision to make in regards to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and his future with the team.
Aiyuk officially requested a trade yesterday after a long months-long back-and-forth between him and the organization, and one former GM doesn’t believe he is going to have his request met.
Mike Lombardi recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and said “The San Francisco 49ers aren’t trading Brandon Aiyuk” and added that when you’re aligned as an organization, there’s nothing from the outside that can really affect you, and acknowledged that the Niners are “perfectly aligned to handle this situation.”

It’s a great point that Lombardi made because the Niners are not a team that often goes through messy divorces, so it’s unusual that the Aiyuk situation has even gotten to this point with him taking thinly veiled shots at the team on social media.
Aiyuk has improved in each of his four seasons in the league and with so many other receivers getting sizeable pay bumps this offseason, he is well within his right to seek one of his own coming off a great season.
It’s unclear what the resolution is going to be since the Niners already have so much money committed at the skill positions to Deebo Samuel, George Kittle, Christian McCaffrey, and even Jauan Jennings who got a 2-year deal for over $15 million this offseason.
SF also drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round, so all signs point to a trade although Lombardi disagrees.
