The Cincinnati Bengals hadn’t exactly been the most successful franchise in the NFL.

But ever since they got Joe Burrow, they proved to the rest of the league that they can go toe-to-toe with the biggest contenders, even reaching the Super Bowl two years ago.

That’s why former NFL player Plaxico Burress believes the Bengals should play it safe with their star quarterback, hinting at not even playing him vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

“If you take away Joe Burrow from the Cincinnati Bengals, they’re probably a .500 football team.”

Burress said that Burrow is a competitor who will never tap out, but sometimes teams need to protect the players from themselves.

He added that Burrow had a calf injury, just like the same Aaron Rodgers had before tearing his Achilles, which is also something that he experienced as a player.

Calf injuries have often been correlated to subsequent Achilles injuries, and losing him would be a massive blow for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.

Burress believes the Bengals would be a .500 team at best without Burrow and he’s definitely right, especially in that division.

Burrow has already suffered a major knee injury in his career, and while he was able to come back even better, they can’t afford to have him in street clothes for over a year.

The Bengals just made him the highest-paid player in NFL history, and they need to make sure that financial investment doesn’t go to waste.
