Despite the excitement that surrounded the New York Jets after they traded for future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers this past offseason, the franchise has continued to suffer its usual misfortune.
Rodgers tore his Achilles on the team’s first offensive series of the season, and even though it won three games in a row and got to a 4-3 record at one point, it was a false success, as the Jets have lost four in a row since.
With a 4-7 record, their chances of making the playoffs have all but disappeared, and there are now whispers that Rodgers may attempt a return in a few weeks.
Many have questioned the medical wisdom of returning so soon after a torn Achilles, but former wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. feels it would be helpful for Rodgers and his new team if he returned, per NFL GameDay.

Smith referenced his own Achilles injury in 2015 and how the mental recovery from such an injury is brutal.
Rodgers, from all accounts, has thrown himself into the rehab process, but even with a very willing and enthusiastic patient, the recovery process for such an injury, even for an elite athlete, can take up to a year.
Whenever he returns, there is also the question of how well he can play, especially given that he is about to turn 40 years of age and has about a decade and a half of wear and tear on his body.
New York does have ample talent on both sides of the football, but one way or another, they need a high-quality quarterback in order to do anything of note.
