While the Kansas City Chiefs are by far and away considered to be the best team in the AFC West, the Denver Broncos are looming as a potential threat to make some noise in 2023.
Russell Wilson had one of the worst years of his career in 2022, though not all of the Broncos’ struggles were his fault as poor coaching and injuries played a role as well.
The coaching side of things looks fixed on paper as Denver went out and hired Sean Payton to man the sidelines, lending some optimism that Wilson can return close to his superstar form.
Wilson has weapons in players like Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and rookie Marvin Mims, while the defense has intriguing young pieces to complement them.
It’s hard for some people to take the Broncos seriously after they finished 5-12 last season, but it’s a new year which means anything could happen.
In fact, former NFL players like Greg Jennings believe that the Broncos could beat the Chiefs during the regular season via First Things First.
“The Broncos will end up beating the Chiefs one of these games — maybe both — this year,” Jennings said.

The Chiefs have historically dominated the Broncos since Patrick Mahomes arrived as they own a 9-1 record in that span.
Kansas City’s offense is the best in the league and they have a budding defense that no longer looks like a liability.
While many will disagree with Jennings’ take at this juncture of the summer, there’s no telling what can happen if the Broncos put it all together.
