Some retirement news has recently hit the NFL wire, and it revolves around a former New England Patriot.

Former wide receiver Tre Nixon, 26, has officially announced his retirement from the NFL via social media after three seasons of battling on the team’s practice squad.

Nixon, who was selected at pick No. 242 overall in the seventh round out of the University of Central Florida in 2021, leaves the game with his health intact and the opportunity to say that he made it to the NFL.

The Florida native went through a lot while up in New England.

He was waived multiple times over, and he signed a couple of reserve/future contracts too.

Unfortunately, he was never able to suit up and play even a down in the league during his short career.

His best season of college football came in 2019 when he caught 49 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns for UCF after transferring over from Ole Miss.

Those solid numbers just never translated to the NFL.

An interesting fact about Nixon is that he is believed to be the final draft pick made by legendary football research director Ernie Adams, who spent two decades in that role in New England helping the team win six Super Bowls.

Retiring from the sport that you love is always going to be a difficult decision.

But again, Nixon is healthy and has his whole adult life ahead of him.

Credit goes to him for making a mature decision that a lot of people and athletes struggle with.
