Few NFL rookie quarterbacks have ever been under more pressure than Mac Jones, as he had to replace arguably the greatest quarterback in league history, with Tom Brady leaving the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fortunately for Jones, the rookie got off to a good start and was named to the Pro Bowl, which led to much optimism about his future in New England and the league.
However, things took a turn for the worse, with the Pats falling apart little by little in the post-Brady era, eventually resulting in the team parting ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons following the 2023 campaign.
Along with Belichick getting fired, the Patriots decided to start from scratch at quarterback, and they traded Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars to be Trevor Lawrence’s backup.
Apparently, Jones might not have been well-liked during his time in New England, with former Patriots player Rob Ninkovich going all in on why he disliked the young QB, via Carlos Talks Pats.

(The voice impression was pretty spot on lol)
“He don’t like us either… I don’t give a f**k… I’ll smack the s**t out of f***ing Mac Jones… I don’t care… Do you care if somebody doesn’t like you? Exactly. F**k… pic.twitter.com/JtjzAsNYVq

This can happen when a quarterback doesn’t command respect in the locker room or on the field, with Jones turning out to be a failed experiment for the Patriots and a player not many were sad to see go.
The Patriots are moving forward with another rookie quarterback, Drake Maye, even though the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will start his professional career on the bench, with veteran Jacoby Brissett recently named New England’s Week 1 starter.
