It is a whole new era in New England.

The New England Patriots parted ways with legendary head coach Bill Belichick this offseason after almost a quarter-century of having him in charge.

Former Patriots All-Pro linebacker and Super Bowl champion Jerod Mayo was hired as their new head coach after spending the past half-decade as the team’s inside linebackers coach.

One of Mayo’s former teammates, safety Patrick Chung, recently joined “Up & Adams” to chat about why Mayo is the right man to lead the Patriots now and into the future.

“I think because I played with him. He’s smart. … He puts people in the right position to make plays. He can relate to players,” Chung stated.

There have been other former players in recent years who have had success as NFL head coaches.

Look at what Dan Campbell is doing with the Detroit Lions. Last season, the head coach got them to the doorstep of their first Super Bowl appearance.

Fans can even point to the job that former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel did as head coach of the Tennessee Titans for six years.

He guided them to winning seasons in four of his six years there, and they also made an AFC Championship Game appearance in the 2019 season.

Mayo will attempt to do the same by getting the Patriots back to title contention.

He knows exactly what it takes to win because of his career with the Pats and has the vocal support of a former teammate.
