Former Patriots Player Sends A Message To Mac Jones

The New England Patriots went through a lot last season.

Mac Jones looked far from the promising young player he was in his rookie campaign, and not just on the field.

Jones had some antics and tantrums on the sidelines and on the field, and while he wasn’t put in a position to succeed to begin with, that just can’t happen, especially so early in a career.

That’s why former Patriots offensive lineman Matt Light took offense at some of those antics, telling Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston that not even Tom Brady did that when he got into the league.

“You don’t think that Tom Brady had the right to do that about five years in… and Mac’s doing it one year in?”

Light claimed that Jones is actually quite talented and that he liked what he saw from him in his rookie season, but he didn’t like the optics and his behavior when things went south last season.

To be fair, the Patriots did everything they could to put Jones in a tough spot, with Bill Belichick refusing to find a replacement for Josh McDaniels and giving Matt Patricia play-calling duties.

Even so, Jones should’ve known better and been more mature — especially on a team like the Patriots.

Jones has admitted that he wasn’t at his best and vowed to win his teammates’ respect back this season.

His work ethic has never been put into question, but he’s under plenty of pressure right now.

The Patriots cannot afford another losing season or even Bill Belichick could be gone, so there’s no reason to think Jones couldn’t be the next in line if that happens.
