On Thursday, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped a massive story that took over the basketball news cycle about the Los Angeles Lakers targeting UConn’s Dan Hurley to be the next head coach of the iconic NBA franchise.

This came as quite a surprise to everyone, with all the reports before this claiming that it was JJ Redick’s job to lose, with the team supposedly enamored with the former NBA player turned ESPN analyst.

It seemed like only a matter of time before Redick would put pen to paper and become Darvin Ham’s successor in Los Angeles, as the consensus was he could agree to the gig once the NBA Finals were over due to his obligation to ESPN to cover those games between the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics.

Now the narrative has changed entirely with Redick seemingly taking a backseat to Hurley, who is in a win-win situation, whether signing with the Lakers or getting a lucrative long-term contract with the UConn Huskies.

However, some believe Hurley shouldn’t take the job with the Lakers, like former NBA player Brian Scalabrine, who recently appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” and explained his reasoning.

“It doesn’t seem like he’d want that job. If you’re Danny Hurley, can’t you get any job in the world? The Lakers job doesn’t seem like a great job,” Scalabrine said.

Brian @Scalabrine explains why he wouldn’t take the #Lakers job if he were Dan Hurley:

Although the head coaching job in Los Angeles is one of the most prestigious in professional sports, it is also one that can come with a short timeline, with the team parting ways with head coaches left and right after two or three years because of failed expectations.

Ham only lasted two years in Los Angeles, while his predecessor Frank Vogel was only with the team from 2019 to 2022, even though he won a title in 2020.

Needless to say, it is a tough job to be successful at, and the pressure will be on right out of the gate.
