Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers has been demanding a huge contract extension for the last few months, and he now may be on the verge of leaving the team.

The 49ers reportedly have a trade agreement in place with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Steelers also reportedly are in a good place regarding an extension agreement with Aiyuk.

As a result, San Francisco’s chances of winning the Super Bowl championship are already on the line, and former NFL star James Jones asked on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” what Aiyuk really wants right now.

“What else are you chasing Aiyuk? Reports are coming out that teams are offering you big money and you don’t want to go there.”@89JonesNTAF speaks on which team Brandon Aiyuk should want to play for pic.twitter.com/6OUS2mKQsk

The Niners reportedly had trade agreements in place a week ago with the Cleveland Browns and New England Patriots, and in particular, the deal with the Browns would’ve brought them five-time Pro Bowl WR Amari Cooper and draft compensation.

That deal could’ve kept alive San Francisco’s Super Bowl hopes, but Aiyuk nixed both trades, even though New England reportedly offered him over $30 million a year.

It makes one wonder if this is really about the money for him.

Aiyuk led the Niners in receptions and receiving yards last season, and needless to say, if he gets traded, they would go down a notch as a team unless they were to somehow get back a comparable wide receiver in a trade.

According to Dianna Russini, it’s possible the Niners get a third team involved in their trade talks with Pittsburgh in order to maximize their return, but such a trade is generally difficult to pull off because of all the moving parts involved.
