All signs point to the New York Giants having to get by without Saquon Barkley in the upcoming season.
The deadline to agree to a contract extension or to sign his tender to play under the franchise tag has passed, and Barkley is reportedly livid at the organization.
However, as bad as things look right now, former NFL star Jason McCourty recently said on “Good Morning Football” that he believes there’s still a chance they can fix this relationship.
Per McCourty, even if — obviously — he cannot sign a new deal now, there’s still a chance that Barkley shows up eventually to show his value again, and the Giants will have a whole season to try and make amends and bury the hatchet with him.
Can the relationship between the Giants and Saquon Barkley be repaired this season?

He doesn’t think he’s going to hold out throughout the entire season as Le’Veon Bell did before signing that big contract with the New York Jets, mostly because it all went downhill for him ever since.
Barkley was — by far — the best player on the Giants’ roster last season, being efficient with his feet and opening up a lot of lanes for Brian Daboll’s passing game.
Even after he showed some improvement last season, there are still countless doubts and concerns about Daniel Jones as a franchise quarterback, especially after signing such a big contract, so the Giants need to give him an elite weapon to take some pressure off his shoulders.
Whether Barkley will show up eventually remains to be seen, but McCourty’s prediction makes plenty of sense.
