Austin Reaves had his coming-out party for the Los Angeles Lakers this past postseason as he was their third-best player in every series.
Even though it was his first time playing in the postseason, Reaves looked comfortable in the spotlight and seemed to even relish the high-pressure moments.
The former undrafted guard was able to make big shot after big shot and even was trusted to handle the ball in crunch time.
It’s rare to see LeBron James defer to a teammate in those high-stakes moments, but Reaves answered the call and helped lead Los Angeles to the Western Conference Finals.
Now entering the 2023-24 NBA season, head coach Darvin Ham has publicly said that he’ll trust Reaves to handle more offensive responsibility in order to lighten the load on James.
While his ascent has been one of the most fun stories in the league, Chandler Parsons doesn’t believe that Reaves is going to make the same sort of leap, via “Run It Back” and NBACentral.
“He’s not a player who’s going to continue to get exceptionally better. It’s not like the potential is through the roof with him,” Parsons said.

At 25 years old, Reaves has fewer years of NBA experience than some of his peers who are right around the same age so his development curve could be plateauing soon.
However, development and improvement are never linear at the professional level so Reaves could very well keep growing despite Parsons’ assertion.
At this point, it would be foolish to assume anything about Reaves given what he’s managed to do so far in his career.
