Bill Belichick is often regarded as one of, if not the best head coach in NFL history.

His six Super Bowl victories with the New England Patriots are the most of all time, which all came during the Tom Brady era.

Despite widespread public recognition for his success, not everyone is on the same page.

Asante Samuel, a former Patriot, was recently asked if Belichick was the GOAT.

In this quick answer provided by the NFL on CBS, Samuel said: “Absolutely not.”

This shocked the interviewer, who appeared to be at a loss for words.

Samuel explained his response, saying, “Well, look at his record without Tom.”

Belichick’s career record without Brady as the starting quarterback is 79-87.

The Patriots have missed the playoffs in two of the past three seasons, which has enforced the narrative that Belichick needed Brady to succeed.

It didn’t help Belichick’s case that Brady won a Super Bowl when he went to Tampa Bay, finding instant success with the Buccaneers.

Samuel also said, “You have to be great in different situations.”

Until Belichick can find great success with Mac Jones as his quarterback, at least to Samuel, he’s not the best coach ever.

Samuel played for the Patriots for four seasons.

As he mentions, he was able to see the Belichick-Brady dynamic firsthand.

Several analysts have mentioned that Belichick could be on the hot seat in 2023, especially if the team misses the playoffs.

Can Belichick lead this team back to the playoffs, silencing Samuel and the rest of his doubters?
