Today, Luka Doncic is easily considered the best player for the Dallas Mavericks and some people feel he may be the greatest Mavs star of all time.
In fact, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban suggested this recently and it has a lot of people talking.
On “Run It Back,” former Mavericks star JJ Barea took issue with this claim, stating that Dirk Nowitzki is the best Dallas star ever.

Barea played with Nowitzki for many years, suiting up for the Mavericks from 2014 to the end of his career in 2020.
He got to be a first-hand witness to the greatness that is Nowitzki.
Nowitzki only played for the Mavericks and secured a career average of 20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists during his 21 years in the NBA.
That earned him 14 All-Star selections, MVP in 2007, a championship, Finals MVP trophy, and a spot in the Hall of Fame and the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.
Nowitzki is still considered a legend for the team but many people believe that Doncic could end up being an all-time better player.
Of course, this will require that Doncic plays as long as Nowitzki and achieves the same milestones.
Right now, he is hard at work at winning his first title but the Boston Celtics are proving to be very tough competition.
Nowitzki changed the NBA in a number of huge ways and played unlike all other big men in the league at the time.
He helped the Mavericks score a championship and is still celebrated for his unique style of play.
Even though a number of fans are starting to claim that Doncic is better, diehard supporters of Nowitzki still believe he’s the best to ever wear a Mavericks jersey.
