Former Player Names The Most Difficult Position To Play In The NFL

There is no position on the NFL field that is easy to play, as each position comes with it’s own grueling challenges that test your mental and physical aptitude, but most would probably argue that quarterback is the most difficult given the number of responsibilities they have.

One former NFL player is arguing that a surprising spot on the field is actually the toughest, though he may be slightly biased given what position he used to play.

Former All-Pro corner Chris Harris Jr. appeared on The Ross Tucker Podcast and said that nickel corner might be the most difficult position to play, saying that it’s harder to put hands on a slot receiver and that their constantly being in motion makes it tough to follow them, adding “They have a bigger route tree, they can run every route in the playbook you can think of.”

It’s a great point, as the slot corner doesn’t have the luxury of trying to funnel their man to the sideline or push them toward help coverage over the top.

The slot corner is often left on an island in every sense of the word and slot receivers are often the most technical route runners and create a ton of problems for defenses.

This is a unique take, and even though Harris played the position, he makes a great point and a strong case for being correct.

Corner in general is often lauded as being the toughest position on defense, but nickel is a whole different beast, especially now with every offense now running three-receiver sets so often.
