The Los Angeles Lakers will have their fourth coach in the past seven years.
That has rarely been a recipe for success, and it feels like the organization has lost its way.
On top of that, there aren’t that many top-notch coaches available.
They’re not going to bring Frank Vogel back, and Tyronn Lue is highly unlikely to be let go by the Los Angeles Clippers.
That leaves Kenny Atkinson, James Borrego, and JJ Redick with the likeliest chances among the rumored candidates.
Nonetheless, Tim Hardaway Sr. believes going with Redick would be a mistake.
Talking on “The Carton Show,” he made a case for LeBron James to be a player-coach instead.

Notably, he’s not the first to suggest that, as Lakers legend Byron Scott made the very same proposition.
Simply put, LeBron has had issues with every single coach he’s had in the league.
He clearly didn’t respect Vogel, much less Darvin Ham.
Also, he has one of the brightest basketball minds in the league, so it’s not going to be easy to find someone he believes can match up to him and his basketball IQ.
From that standpoint, it would make sense to give him the keys to the car, something that hasn’t happened since the 70s.
Then again, it’s highly unlikely that the Lakers are going to openly admit that James has been calling all the shots for them, and James isn’t going to risk being the fall guy this time around either, so that’s pretty much off the table.
