Former Player Says 1 QB Wouldn’t Fit With Steelers

Since Ben Roethlisberger retired, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been searching for their next franchise quarterback.

The Steelers have gone through multiple signal-callers and none of them have been able to show they can capably handle the offense.

Kenny Pickett has shown some incremental growth since being taken in the first round a couple of years ago, but injuries have made it difficult for him to establish any sort of consistency or rhythm.

Instead, Pittsburgh will be in the market this offseason for a veteran option that can hopefully solve their offensive woes and get them back into the postseason.

There are a few options in free agency such as Kirk Cousins and Ryan Tannehill, though Russell Wilson remains the most interesting name to monitor.

However, LaVar Arrington believes that Wilson’s personality wouldn’t work in Pittsburgh, per FOX Sports via Blitzburgh on Twitter.

“I just don’t think his personality is a conducive personality for the Pittsburgh way. He’s soft,” Arrington said.

Wilson’s decline on the field has been well-documented and his tenure with the Denver Broncos didn’t help his cause to start elsewhere.

Although the former Super Bowl champion had a modest bounce-back year in 2023, he still got benched toward the end of the season in favor of backup Jarrett Stidham.

Wilson can likely still help a team, though the Steelers might want to look elsewhere given the recent downswing.

Cousins would be an ideal fit, though his Achilles injury is cause for concern while Tannehill appears to be in the twilight of his career as well.

Either way, Pittsburgh knows they probably need someone better than Pickett to get over the hump.
